I have to hand it to Goofy Dance Man.

Sure, maybe he was tripping out on something but Goofy Dance’s flail-joy just goes to show how infectious pure enthusiasm can be.

The first few dancers to join him were surely making fun of him, but did that stop him? Decrease his enthusiasm? Diminish his super dance powers?

No, they only increased his audience and his happy flailing. Soon, the pure fun of it caught on like brush fire and people came running with abandon.

There is a lesson to learn here. Sometimes you gotta be the Goofy Dance Man.

PS

Don’t miss the close up cameraman. He and his buddy get swamped by the crowd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGXN-9caULA&feature=related

And there is more…

The Eagle

Did you see him?
Did you see the Eagle?
This time, in the Woods?
Looking, up the trunk, to the high top
Of the tree,
Did you see him in his nest?

Yes! I saw him looking down at me.
He glanced and in a flash, leapt up,
And began the deep beat of wings.

Beating harder.
Beating deeper.
Beating farther.
Beating higher.

The Great Bird rose
And began again
The ebb and flow of rise and return
To hunt and to rest
Double runs between prey and nest
Day after day
Night after night
Birth after birth
Flight after flight
The Eagle, ever watches,
From the top of the world.

He sees the fox that ate the mouse that ate the orange that made the seed that became the tree that bore the fruit.
The fruit that glows
Bright shining as the Sun,
Sinking in the West
And rising, the Eagle,
Beating deep,
Ever watches,
Double running from prey to nest.

Did you see him?
Did you see the Eagle?
No.
But I can tell you,
He did see me.

Dedicated to H. E. Bert Schulz, my father-in-law
On the day of his final rest.
And in Hope for Carla.

Tents in Haiti - By Bourne Media

Tents in Haiti - By Bourne Media

Local Asheville nurse Jessica Hardy went to Haiti to help and came back with a better understanding of the tragedy before the tragedy. Conditions were bad enough before the earthquake, but now poor infrastructure and housing will make health matters worse. Donating tents will help in the immediate short term.

Here is a quote from Jason Sandford’s Mountain Express article

“With the rains and the winds, we’re looking at a second wave of death and disease,” she says. “We’ve put all this effort into saving lives, but there will continue to be illness. Sanitation is an issue, so bacterial infections could be out of control. Air quality is poor. So if these people are out in the wet and the wind, they just won’t have a chance. If we can provide them a way to get out of the weather, we can save their lives.”

Hardy says she’s asking people to dig through their garages and basements and consider donating old tents, tarps or other weather-resistant materials. She says the Nantahala Outdoor Center, REI, Black Dome, Craggie Brewing and Terra Nostra Decor have all confirmed that they will serve as drop-off points for anyone who has something to donate.

Wet and the wind AND Malaria carrying mosquitoes can be kept at by by a decent tent.

If you are not local to WNC or you just want to donate directly for a tent, try http://ahomeinhaiti.org/ Plus, this site will help you organize a local drive, if you really want to get things done.

I have a big ‘ole tent in my basement that is going to get dropped off soon.

Thanks, and CONSIDER HAITI!

I’m trying to make it easier to update my blogs. Posterous is great, but I’d rather have my traffic going to one place. I will continue to use Posterous for sending pics form my phone. It’s great for that.

I’ll let you know in a later comment to this post if I like it or not.
